Alps adds Addept's Not for Lions to its portfolio

7th January 2025:  Alps, a leading provider of insurance add-on policies, legal expenses, and claims solutions for intermediaries, has announced it has added ‘Not for Lions’, a new Landlord Pet Damage Policy, to its portfolio. This innovative add-on product delivers valuable protection for landlords under the new reforms proposed by the Renters’ Rights Bill.

The Renters’ Rights Bill, which is expected to receive royal assent in spring 2025, will give tenants increased rights to keep pets at rental properties.  Whilst landlords will have reduced autonomy to reject such requests, they will have the ability to request that tenants keeping pets at their properties either obtain pet damage cover or reimburse the cost of a specific insurance purchased by the landlord.

Not for Lions, developed by ancillary insurance provider Addept Insurance with capacity from The Salvation Army General Insurance Corporation (Sagic), provides responsive cover balanced in terms of fair value, price and service.  Brokers can access the policy as an add-on to both new and existing buildings and contents insurance. From as little as £120.00 (+IPT) they can provide their landlord clients with cover for pet damage up to an aggregate of £5,000 per period of insurance.

Speaking about the launch Michelle O’Reilly, Operations Director at Alps commented: “This is a fantastic addition to our broad range of add-on policies.  We’re delighted to be working with Addept Insurance to bring this responsive cover to market at a time when landlords are facing increasing uncertainty. It’s an important product landlords, providing protection and peace of mind at a level affordable to most tenants.”

Richard Finan, Managing Director at Addept Insurance said: “Alps shares our commitment to providing innovative add-on solutions that exceed customer expectations both in terms of value and service.  We are delighted to partner with them, ahead of the implementation of the new Renters’ Rights Bill, to bring this exciting new product to market addressing the current protection gap for landlords in accessing dedicated pet damage cover at a cost that is affordable to tenants.”

Alps offers a broad suite of add-on covers including sole trader, commercial, landlord and family legal expenses; motor related add-ons including excess protect, tools in transit, vehicle replacement, road rescue; and property related add-ons including landlord excess protect and home emergency, key cover and second property legal expenses.  The capacity for its products comes from a growing panel of strongly rated insurers and it operates a number of delegated authority arrangements, allowing it to offer brokers a fast and efficient service.
