POTHOLE PROTECT

What is Pothole Protect?

Pothole Protect is designed to do one thing really well: cover the cost of damage caused by hitting a pothole.

It gives customers an easy, stress-free way to get repairs sorted without making a fault claim on their main motor policy – which means no hit to their No Claims Bonus, and no increase in future premiums.

POTHOLE PROTECT

What’s Covered?

The policy covers up to £2,000 per year for damage caused by potholes, including:

  • Tyres – up to £200 per tyre (max £600/year)

  • Wheels – up to £250 per wheel (max £500/year)

  • Suspension – up to £500

  • Wheel Alignment / Rebalancing – up to £150

  • Bodywork / Paint / Headlights – up to £250

It’s available for private vehicles, and for taxi or courier drivers as long as their use is declared at the start.

Why Customers Like It

  • They don’t want to claim on their main insurance for pothole damage – and most don’t

  • It protects their No Claims Bonus and keeps their premiums stable

  • Gives them peace of mind – and makes repairs more affordable when they need it

  • It feels fair: pothole damage isn’t their fault, and they shouldn’t be punished for it

Why It Works for Brokers & Insurers

  • Great for retention – helps you keep customers happy at renewal

  • No knock-on effect to core motor loss ratios

  • Delivers real value, which is more important than ever with the FCA’s focus on add-ons and fair pricing

  • Works especially well for taxi books and higher-risk portfolios, where pothole damage is common and often unrecoverable

What’s Not Covered?

Some key exclusions to keep in mind:

  • Damage from careless driving, wear and tear, or poor maintenance

  • Food delivery use (Deliveroo, Uber Eats etc.) is excluded

  • Claims outside the UK, Channel Islands, or Isle of Man

  • Customers need to pay for repairs up front – this is a pay and claim policy

  • Claims must be made within 31 days, and include:

  • Photos of the pothole and damage

  • Confirmation the pothole has been reported to the local authority

  • Invoices from a VAT-registered or approved garage
