Addept Insurance launches marine legal protection insurance to address reduction in market capacity and cover options

Waypoint launch addresses narrowing insurance capacity and cover options in boat owners legal protection

22 September 2025 - Addept Insurance Services (Addept Insurance) has today announced the launch of Waypoint, a marine legal protection insurance solution and the securing of a number of new schemes including a wholesale facility for brokers.

Waypoint is a specialist legal protection insurance and assistance service for boat owners. It offers bespoke coverage reflecting the breadth of risk in the marine and pleasure craft sectors supported by specialist marine lawyers, as required.

Cover includes legal costs to recover uninsured losses, pursuit of personal injury claims, the costs to pursue or defend a legal action following a breach of a contract or defend a criminal offence, personal and vessel identity fraud costs, emergency expenses, temporary vessel replacement costs and loss of mooring fees. In addition, customers have access to 24/7 specialist marine and non-marine legal, and health and medical information helplines.

Richard Finan, Managing Director of Addept Insurance, said: “The marine LEI market has seen a narrowing of cover and capacity options which has meant brokers have found it harder to access appropriate cover. Waypoint addresses this move to ‘vanilla’ products by building solutions that address the needs of specific marine risk profiles including providing wholesale facilities to brokers with smaller books of marine business who cannot access products currently. 

“We have seen a positive response from brokers to our approach and the cover offered by Waypoint and have secured schemes with a number of distribution partners.”

Addept Insurance has already launched seven new Waypoint schemes including with specialist marine underwriting agency Porthcawl Insurance Consultants (UK) and their trading style Insurance-4-Boats.co.uk, Admiral Marine, Everard Specialist Marine brokers, part of James Hallam, and Topsail Marine & Leisure Insurance (Topsail). Topsail will also provide a wholesale facility for other brokers with smaller books of business to access Waypoint.

Capacity for Waypoint is being provided by Irwell Insurance Company (Irwell Insurance) a leading AM Best B++ (Good) rated specialist legal expenses and liability insurer.

Waypoint is the latest addition to Addept Insurance’s suite of specialist legal expenses insurance (LEI) products launched earlier this year. The firm provides a diverse range of legal expenses and ancillary insurance solutions designed to address the evolving needs of customers and to support brokers and other intermediaries to respond to the changing risk and regulatory environment in today’s insurance market.

Addept Insurance is planning to further expand its legal expenses portfolio with new products in the personal, motor and SME sectors during the rest of 2025.
